Torus Stonecraft provide a wide range of stone restoration and conservation services to assist in any project. We also take on insurance work.
At Torus Stonecraft we recognise the need to assess every project on its own merits and to retain as much of the original stone fabric as possible. However, when stonework becomes a safety issue, perhaps due to preferential weather erosion or structural problems, this is when the stone fabric must be considered for replacement. Our highly qualified team of craftsmen carry out all works using the most appropriate methods and materials to achieve a finish that is as close to the original as possible. This ensures that the function of the stonework is maintained in terms of the suitable porosity and density of the chosen stone and mortars, whilst the aesthetics of the building are complimented by the correct choice of stone colours.
This requires a more sensitive approach, with minimal intervention to maintain as much of the original material and detail as possible. Our extensive knowledge and experience in the field of stone conservation enables us to employ sympathetic, reversible techniques to ensure the ongoing health of the stone fabric, with its preservation and proper function maintained for the future. Careful cleaning and consolidation plays a major part in the conservation of historic stonework and must be considered first and foremost on all conservation projects.
Our highly skilled stone carvers have produced detailed work on many high profile projects in Edinburgh and beyond. We specialise in the following:
